For years this was not your problem. You never thought about it. It just worked.
Now it is over in a couple of minutes and you are lying there in the dark running through everything you have ever heard about testosterone and age and damage.
Something happened, you think. Something broke.
That is almost never what happened.
Nothing broke
A body that worked for fifteen years does not suddenly lose the machinery. What changes is the conditions the machinery is running in.
Think of a car you have driven since you were young. It starts every morning. Then one winter it will not turn over, and you decide the engine is finished. It is usually the battery, or the cold, or the fact that you have been doing five-minute journeys for two months.
If you are asking why do I finish so fast now, you are asking the right question. You are just asking it about the wrong part.
Almost every man I coach with this exact story finds four or five small things that changed at the same time, none of which felt like it had anything to do with sex.
What usually changed
Read these honestly. Not one of them. Usually three or four together.
Sleep. This is the one men wave away and it is the biggest. Broken sleep, late nights, a new baby, a job that starts earlier. A tired nervous system has no brakes. You are more reactive, less able to feel the middle, and everything happens faster.
Stress load. Not one dramatic crisis. The steady kind. Money, work, a father getting old, a house you cannot quite afford. Your body has been in a slightly braced state for a year. Jaw tight, shoulders up, belly hard, pelvic floor already clenched before anyone touched you. A muscle that can only clench is not strong, it is stuck, and a body that is already tense is a body already halfway to finishing.
Screens and porn. You have a pool of dopamine and every time you watch you spend from it. Spend fast enough and real skin in a real bed is not loud enough any more. Two other things happen too, and they are the ones men miss. You have been practising finishing quickly, several times a week, for years. And your hand, gripping hard and going fast, teaches your body a level of pressure a woman will never match.
Alcohol. You think it relaxes you. It removes feeling, then it removes control, and the day after it flattens everything. If your drinking has quietly gone up over the last few years, this belongs on your list.
A new partner. This one hurts to admit. New woman, or a woman you actually care about, and now it matters. Wanting to be good at it is exactly the thing that stops you being good at it. Almost every man I work with can point to the first night he was aware of trying.
A stomach that got heavier, a body that stopped moving. Still water goes stagnant, flowing water stays clean. A man who sits all day is a pond. Circulation, hormones and mood all live downstream of that.
One bad night. Which brings me to the part that is actually running this.
The meaning is the engine
Here is the sequence I have seen more than a hundred times.
You had one fast night. Too much wine, too tired, too long since the last time, too keen. It meant nothing.
But you noticed. And the next time you got into bed, a small part of you was watching to see whether it would happen again.
That watching is the problem. Now you are not in bed with her, you are in bed with a question. Your attention is on the ceiling, monitoring yourself, checking her face. Your body reads that as pressure and does what bodies do under pressure, which is hurry.
It happens again, which proves the fear right, which makes the watching stronger next time.
The first night was an accident. The meaning you attached to it built the loop.
That is good news, even though it does not feel like it. A loop that was built can be taken apart. Premature ejaculation is not your destiny. It is an untrained skill, and the training works whether it has been three months or three years.
Go and get checked, then come back
If this arrived alongside anything else, take it to a doctor before you take it to a coach.
Erections that have gone soft or quiet. Morning erections that have stopped for months. Pain anywhere. Real tiredness that sleep does not touch. Any new medication in the last year, especially for blood pressure or mood.
I am a coach. I am not a doctor. I do not diagnose anything and I never will.
Blood pressure, blood sugar, thyroid, sleep apnoea and medication side effects all show up in the bedroom first, and every one of them is worth knowing about for reasons much bigger than sex. If your mornings have gone quiet too, start with what no morning wood actually means.
Get checked. Then come back and train.
The work, in order
Fix the sleep before anything else. Same bedtime, dark room, no screen in your hands late, easy on the alcohol at night. Nothing else on this list works properly on four hours.
Take the screens out. Especially the ones you use for stimulation. This is the single change that moves the needle fastest for the men in this situation, because it stops you practising the wrong skill three times a week.
Learn where 8 is. You need a scale. 0 is nothing, 5 or 6 is warm, 8 is high but still steerable, 9 is the point of no return, 10 is the finish. Most men go 4, then 7, then they are past 9. Train alone, climb to 8, stop, come back to 6, climb again. The full practice is here: the 8-out-of-10 rule.
Train the pelvic floor both ways. The sheet of muscle at the bottom of you, from the base of the penis back to the anus. Squeeze it, hold five, and then release slowly and completely. The release is the half that men in this situation need most, because your problem is tension, not weakness.
Breathe low and slow, twice a day. Belly first, out longer than in, ten breaths. You are teaching a braced nervous system that it is allowed to stand down.
Put your attention back in your body. During sex, feel your feet. Feel her skin under your hand. You cannot be on the ceiling and in the room at the same time. You will drift a hundred times. Coming back is the exercise, not staying.
Take the outcome off the table for a few weeks. Tell her, in whatever words are yours, that you want some nights where finishing is not the point. Most men are terrified of that conversation and most women take it far better than he expected. The pressure is the fuel, and this is how you cut the fuel line.
What to expect
Week one. Better sleep, no change in bed, and probably one night that goes badly and makes you want to give up. Expected.
Week four. The watching gets quieter. You will notice it afterwards rather than during, which is the first real sign the loop is loosening.
Week nine. Roughly where men in this situation tell me it feels like it used to, or close. Men whose problem is recent usually come back faster than men who have had it since they were young. For plenty of men it is later, and later is not failure.
From my own bed
My story is the opposite of yours, and that is why I trust this one.
I never had the good years. I finished in about a minute from the beginning, and I carried it around like a stone in my pocket. It cost me relationships and it made me small in my own eyes long before it made me small in anyone else’s.
By the time I found tantra at twenty-nine, the physical habit was old, but the heavier thing was everything I had decided about myself because of it. I had spent a decade being a man who was bad at this. Undoing that took longer than undoing the reflex.
You have an advantage I did not have. You know what it looks like when it works, because it worked for years. Your body has the file. We are changing conditions, not building from nothing.
Run your own experiments. Test this against your own body and do not take it as dogma.
